Bogdan Bogdanov

• Born in Sofia

• MA in Classical Philology, Sofia University

1963-69
• Started teaching classical languages, antique and Western European literature, Veliko Turnovo University

1969-83
• Became Assistant Professor  of Classical Philology at the Department of Classical Philology, Sofia University

1976
• Received his PhD for the thesis "Euripides’ two partite tragedies and the description of the perspective of the attic tragedy"

1978
• Specialized at the University of Athena

1983-89
• Became an Associate Professor of Classical Philology, Sofia University and taught the courses "Introduction to Classical Philology" and "Ancient Greek Culture"

1984
• Specialized at the University of Amsterdam.

1986
• Received his D. Litt. with the thesis "Typological Issues of Ancient Greek Literature up to the Hellenistic Period"

1987-89
• Deputy Chair of the Department of Classical and Modern Philologies, Sofia University

1989
• Became full professor of Classical Philology, Sofia University and taught the course  "Ancient Greek Literature"

1989-91
• Chair of Classical Philology Department, Sofia University

1990-98
• President and Member of the Board of Trustees of the “Open Society“ Foundation, Sofia

1990
• Founded and presided over the Society for a new Bulgarian university

1991
• Оrganized the establishment of New Bulgarian University (Grand National Assembly Resolution, 18 September 1991)

1991-93
• Ambassador of the Republic o Bulgaria to the Republic of Greece. In 1993 he received the Grand-Croix de l'Ordre de Phénix, Grèce

1993-95
• President of the Interim Board and acting Rector of New Bulgarian University

1995-2011
• President of the Board of Trustees of New Bulgarian University

2000
• Set up the foundation “For a new Bulgarian university”

2002
• Received the national award “Christo G. Danov” in the humanities category for his book “Europe – Understood and Made”

2011
•  President of New Bulgarian University
